Reflexology is an ancient art and science that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Based on Egyptian hieroglyphics, it has been around since at least 5000 b.c. Reflexology is NOT a foot massage and it is NOT a medical treatment. Rather, it is a unique method of using the thumb and fingers on these reflex areas to help your body heal itself by restoring the circulatory, nervous, immune, digestive, lymphatic, hormonal and structural systems to normal functioning. It is the body that is the healer, not the reflexologist.
All sessions are confidential, meaning that nothing that happens or is said within is discussed outside of it. The names of our clients are never shared with others. We keep our offices sanitized and change all of the linens and towels between each client. This time is YOUR TIME, and we respect that. We aim to provide a welcoming and safe place for you to relax. Sessions start and end on time and are uninterrupted. Each client is treated individually so no two sessions are ever the same.
We use the Original Ingham Method of Reflexology. Only the fingers and thumbs are used, making it a safe, simple, yet effective method without the use of gadgets. Only the footwear comes off, as only the feet and hands are touched. Foot reflexology is only done on bare feet. If you are not comfortable doing this, or have contraindications, hand reflexology is a great alternative with the same benefits.
On your first visit you will fill out an intake form, giving general information as well as any health issues you may have/had. A consent form will be signed and we will discuss what you want to accomplish through your session.
You will be taken to a relaxation room, where you will remove your shoes and socks and either lay on the table or sit in the zero gravity chair. The room will be relaxing with dimmed lights and soothing music. You will be encouraged to take deep breaths and then to just relax and allow the energetic transfer from the reflexology to your body for total relaxation and other benefits. I will use my fingers and thumbs to work the reflex points in either your hands or feet (or both), as well as some relaxation techniques. The whole foot/hand gets worked during every session regardless of the areas that reveal imbalances but additional attention will be paid to areas that relate to these imbalances.
Reflexology reduces stress and induces deep relaxation. During a session more than 14,000 nerves are stimulated. It improves circulation, cleanses the body of toxins and impurities, balances the whole system, revitalizes energy, stimulates creativity and productivity and nurtures relationships. At the end of the session, your feet or hands will be wrapped with warm towels.
Most people fall asleep during the session- and that is just fine! The reflexology still works! You may feel areas of tenderness in certain reflex areas, but the methodology used should not cause any pain or discomfort when working on or around these reflex points. Rather, this is a good sign that your body is responding on your behalf.
The session is relaxing and safe. The primary aim of the session is to relax the body. When the session is complete, you will be left to put your shoes and socks back on and then given a small bottle of water while we discuss the session and book your next appointment.
After a reflexology session, various reactions may occur. Most are subtle, and often not recognized by many people. Many of the reactions are positive signs that the session is part of a self-healing process; other reactions are indicative of the body's attempt to return to a state of balance and harmony. You will leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and your feet will feel like you're walking on air.
